<p>July 1, Californians will join many other states and countries in requiring drivers to use handsfree devices when talking on their cell phones. I called Bill using the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Aliph-Jawbone-Shield-Bluetooth-Headset/dp/B000RUPEOA/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=wireless&amp;qid=1203093369&amp;sr=8-1/leoville0f-20" target="_blank">Jawbone</a> today.</p>
<p>I currently use the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/BlueAnt-Supertooth-Bluetooth-Handsfree-Speakerphone/dp/B000Q6R4MK/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&amp;s=wireless&amp;qid=1203093464&amp;sr=8-2/leoville0f-20" target="_blank">BlueAnt Supertooth Light</a> in my car. It has its own speaker and mic and attaches to the visor. It works pretty well, although I can't vouch for what it sounds like to my callers.</p>
<p>Another system that requires no installation but uses your car speakers is <a href="http://thetoothpik.com/">The Tooth Pik</a>.</p>

<p><b>Leo Laporte on the Bill Handel Show, KFI AM 640, Los Angeles, 7:50am, April 14, 2006</b></p>
<p>TiVo gets a second life at the ninth hour. A jury has <a href="http://tinyurl.com/zse3t" target="_blank">awarded TiVo $74 million</a> in its lawsuit against the DISH Network (Echostar). That means TiVo effectively owns the patents to the key technologies for DVRs (digital video recorders) including the ability to pause, rewind, and fast forward live programming.</p>
<p>TiVo probably wouldn't have survived losing this lawsuit. Now all DVR manufacturers will have to license their technology from TiVo.</p>
<p>Echostar plans to appeal.</p>

<p>France <a class="urllink" href="http://tinyurl.com/e8qb9" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">legalizes music piracy</a>... sort of. Will Apple pull out?</p>

<p>I talked with John about the following stories:</p>
<p>Top story is the <a href="http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1563">Apple Announcement</a>, of course. Apple also patched some <a href="http://news.com.com/Apple+patches+serious+Mac+OS+flaws/2100-1002_3-6044945.html">serious flaws</a> this week.</p>
<p>Also of interest, AOL is proposing a system where mass mailers pay a <a href="http://www.salon.com/tech/feature/Thursday,%20March%202,%202006/aol/index_np.html">fraction of a cent per email</a> - and the Internet community is up in arms.</p>
<p>And speculation about Microsoft's <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6145278.html">Origami device</a> is building.</p>
